ISSA Football 2017

ISSA Football 2017

November 13,2017

Our varsity boys and girls football teams had the opportunity to represent ISL at the ISSA tournaments in Madrid and Aberdeen respectively.

Students were all very excited and motivated for this tournament. They had been training very hard for the last 2 months and the time and place to put everything together had finally arrived.

The tournament had a special guest for the inauguration, Fernando Torres "el nino", which was an amazing surprise for our young players. He spoke about respect in sport and his football experiences when he was at school and then shook hands with every player from all the schools.

Our boys could not have shown more resilience after having two defeats of the first day, playing every match with a positive attitude, concentration and they gave their everything on the field. The result of such effort was 3 victories with 8 goals in our favour against strong teams such as the London German school and BLIS from Turkey.

On the final day of the competition, the boys kept the momentum going from the second day in the play off match again against Aberdeen and we won 3-2, getting the 5th final position out of 10 teams.

We can be certain that our female footballers applied the ‘3 S Rule’: they were Serious, Supportive and Strong (mentally and physically). This was helping us hugely in defence since it was extremely hard for the other teams to score goals when playing against us. It was not an easy task to score goals in attack but our girls were highly complemented by the other coaches. Unfortunately, our girls were not able to score more goals than the other team, which is the point to win a football game, and achieved the 8th position on the overall ranking of the tournament.

The last important update about our football girls is that all the members of the team who represented ISL in Aberdeen have established a goal for themselves: ‘‘we are going to practice weekly all academic year; together we have decided to join the Wednesday sessions and we are committed with progressing into another level with this team”.

The four coaches - Marta Perez, Borja A. Llorente, Nuno Machado and Tim Pascoe were very proud of our students for their outstanding attitude, commitment and behaviour during the practices and the tournament. Our boys and girls have shown a great hunger for improvement and we can't wait for next year's competition!
